Breathe

DAY 12 OF 20

As followers of Jesus, we’re given many labels or names. Children of God, believers, Christians, redeemed—the list could go on and on. The label that sometimes gets the least attention? Friend! Yes, Jesus calls us more than just His followers. He calls us His friends. It’s a tangible, personal label that defines a new part of our relationship with Him. It implies a closeness and care between us and Him.

Think about the way you interact with your closest friend. You share your secrets, you call them when you’re in need, you talk or text every day, you share in their joy, and you go out of your way to spend time with them whenever and however you can. As friends of Jesus, our relationship with Him can be the same. We can turn to Him not just as a Savior and Lord but as a friend who wants to show up for us, love us, comfort us, know us, and be in a close relationship with us in this life.

Today, talk to a close friend in your life about what it means to you to be a friend to Jesus. How does that title influence the relationship you have with Him?

About this Plan

Breathe

Few things in life are more important than breathing. It’s what keeps us going and living. This isn’t a devotional on the science of breathing. Instead, we’re talking about what it looks like to create breathing room in parts of our everyday lives. From faith to finances to friendship to so much more, we’re diving into the benefits of slowing down, pausing, and giving these areas of our lives room to breathe.
