Full of It! Living a Life FULL of Faith.

DAY 5 OF 6

Hebrews 3:12 says to take care, to not fall away from the living God! It’s pretty easy to fall away if we aren’t holding on tightly. Suppose we’re holding on to things in our life that aren’t true, like the opinions of others, social media, or the latest political agendas, instead of holding on tightly to the word of God. In that case, it’s going to be easy to lose our grip and fall away.

Being firm in your faith takes intentionality. When we "take care", it changes things. When we build our Faith by building our foundation and are intentional about making sure that our choices align with God's Word, then we experience spiritual growth.

Let’s be honest – sin has a way of looking good. It’s enticing, attractive, and easy to get into, and before we know it, it’s pretty rooted in our gardens like Hebrews 6 talks about. The things that need to be tilled up are often thick weeds. They grow like wildfire and steal all the space and nutrients from the good things that are trying to grow. And if we don’t till and just let the weeds grow, they will overtake our garden. They will choke out the life of the good things.

He says there are better things. He’s not talking about works for your salvation – he’s talking about the works for your sanctification. And sanctification is a fancy word for your growth to look more like Jesus. See, when we’re rooted in the good soil (the Word), and we’re watering it, we’re tilling our grounds, and we’re nurturing it, then we grow good spiritual things.

But the work that we’re putting into our gardens and our fruit growth isn’t so that we are saved. It’s because we are saved – because we’ve tasted how good the fulfillment of Jesus is, and we want more of it. And it takes diligence to keep going through the growth. It takes diligence to hold on to that anchor – our hope.

Jesus is sufficient, and everything in our life changes when we truly allow him to be our foundation – to be what we build on. It doesn’t mean that because Jesus paid it all, we live in the same way the world does. No, it means the opposite. He says that if we love him, we will obey him.
