Discovery Pathway Classes - Baptism and Spirit-Filled LivingSýnishorn
Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
Colossians 2:12
Before you put your faith in Jesus Christ, you were dead. Yes, you had breath in your lungs, but spiritually, you were dead. A dead thing cannot bring itself back to life. Only a miracle can bring a dead thing back to life!
Your baptism is a symbol of that miracle taking place in you. You were dead. Now you are alive! You have been brought to new life because of what Jesus did for you. Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, you have been given new life in him! Your baptism becomes a marker of the change that has taken place in you. It is a reminder of your new identity with Christ. You are a child of God. You are a new creation. You have been given a new life! Now that Jesus is the Lord of your life, you can begin to live like him.
As you read from Colossians today, reflect on things you want to leave behind from your old life. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the power to walk into new life in those areas. Keep these prayers on your mind as you go into the waters of baptism. Allow the Holy Spirit to wash over you, cleanse your heart and mind, and raise you to new life!
