Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:9-10
The fourth activity that will help you to “grasp” God’s Word is memorizing. Memorizing scripture allows you to use the “Sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17) even when you don’t have your Bible in hand. Because you will have key verses memorized, you will have access to what God’s Word says all the time!
Memorizing scripture will also purify your thoughts, increase your effectiveness in prayer, help you share your faith with others, and help you meditate on God’s Word throughout your day.
In John 14:26, Jesus told his disciples that the Holy Spirit would remind them of his words. The Holy Spirit will remind you of the scriptures you have memorized at the right moment. The memorization of the Bible will encourage you when you’re feeling down, strengthen you when you are tempted, and increase your faith.
If you would like to learn more about memorizing scripture, the Discovery Pathway has helpful tips and lessons on this topic.
Today, after rereading the verses from Luke, memorize Luke 19:9-10. Write down the passage on a flash card and place it somewhere you will see it regularly, like your mirror or in your car. Each time you see the verse, read it out loud. As you become more familiar with it, try to say the verse without looking at the card. Once you have learned the verse fully, share the verse with a friend or family member from memory.
