Milestones - Salvation, Baptism, CommunionSýnishorn
When a person is baptised, they are immersed in water and lifted up out of the water. It represents leaving their old life behind and being raised to new life with Christ.
The word “baptism” means “to dip, immerse, plunge or submerge into a substance” Water baptism is a statement of faith: “My old life is behind me; I am a new person with a new life because Jesus died on the cross and rose again” It shows people that you believe and have faith in Jesus. Being baptised is a bit different from being dedicated or christened as a baby; being baptised is a decision that you make for yourself when you’re ready.
When someone is baptised, they declare to the world that they follow Jesus. They’re clothing themselves with Christ. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward change that has taken place in your life through faith in Jesus. It’s following the example and instruction of Jesus; He was baptised, and He gave His followers the instruction to baptise others.
The first Christians were baptised, signifying their turning from their sins and their new lives with Christ. Now, thousands of years later, we celebrate the same milestone on our spiritual journey.
