Sneezing Jesus: How God Redeems Our HumanitySýnishorn
Roll
In John 11 we encounter the story of Lazarus. Jesus had been summoned to come to His sick friend but on the way, Lazarus died. Upon His arrival in the village of Bethany, Lazarus’ sisters each fell before Jesus and essentially said, “If you had just been here this wouldn’t have happened.”
Have you ever said those words to Jesus?
In the Lazarus story, the impossible became possible—life was called out of death.
What are the places inside your heart that have become just a shell of what they could have been? What has happened that would cause you—like Mary and Martha in the Lazarus story—to say, “Jesus, if only you would’ve been here, this wouldn’t have happened?”
What if Jesus were standing at the tomb of your heart and asked you to roll away the stone? In the Lazarus story Jesus said that what had died would live even though it had died. Maybe there is life in the places you think have died inside you.
