Sneezing Jesus: How God Redeems Our HumanitySýnishorn
Begin: Sneezing Jesus
If you were asked to describe Jesus using only one word. What would it be? What words come to mind that describe your experience of Jesus?
Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.
Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God.
Jesus was indeed God incarnate. But the Scriptures tell us that Jesus was fully a human being. Give that some thought. What we see in Jesus is the human and the Divine occupying the same space at the same time. This is extraordinary—or is it?
The time Jesus spent on earth between His birth and death was lived fully human. And it was not purposeless. There was much more to Jesus life than His death—He came to show us what you and I are supposed to look like. Perhaps what we find in Jesus humanity is what normal humanity is supposed to be.
What if we were to look at Jesus as the most ‘normal’ human who ever lived?
What if we realized that the process of ‘sanctification’ that is supposed to be happening within us is not the process of getting us closer to dying and getting out of here, but rather the process of making us fully human again with the Divine and human intertwined, like Jesus—Christ-like in other words.
Right now matters. With all our unique flesh and bone, heart, mind and will we are compelled to participate in the human experience, and Jesus showed us how it’s supposed to be done. As a human, Jesus sneezed just like the rest of us. Jesus was a human being just like the rest of us.
We are all sneezing something. May we become infected with the pure and true essence of Jesus and sneeze it everywhere. May you be delighted and surprised at the beauty of the savior, and may you find in Him what your life could be, may you find life in Jesus—the Human God.
Have you ever thought of Jesus sneezing?
Does it make you feel uncomfortable to talk about Jesus humanity, like irreverent?
Did Jesus live as a super-human or was He, as the Scriptures say, fully human?
If Jesus was fully human then His extraordinary life is what a perfectly normal human being is supposed to look like (Christ-like.) Have we been living sub-human or Christ-like?
