Guided Prayers for Afternoon WalksSýnishorn
Generosity:
We so often measure life by what we get, but what if we measured life by what we give?
I'm not talking about money or dollar amounts. I am describing a way of life that reflects the heart of God—to give something of our human quota to the world around us, actually, counter-intuitively, brings a return of much greater value.
Luke 6:37–38 “Give, and it will begiven to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
When we are generous, we set in motion a principle of God that is hardwired into creation. I don't give into a black hole, an abyss. When I give, I don't lose.
In fact, there is a measure. I can use a teaspoon approach to life and give as little of who I am to the world. That's a micro measure.
Or I can use a wheelbarrow approach…and just load up as much as I can of who I am and give it away. That's a generous measure.
Jesus tells us the SAME measure we give back is the same one He will use to give back to us.
So, what do you want God to use? A teaspoon or a wheelbarrow?
I'm Benjamin Windle. Would you pray with me? Take a moment to ground yourself. Take a deep breath. Center your mind on the presence of the Holy Spirit. God is with us. God sees. God cares. God knows.
Dear God, today we step into a posture of prayer. Help me be generous. Make me aware of opportunities to give away my gifts, talents, kindness, friendship, and time to those around me.
I want to live a life with a big measure of generosity. Enable me to give away the essence of who I am to the global community I share this planet with. I want to be a generous person. Thank you for modeling to me true generosity.
We pray this together in Jesus' name.”
Today, let’s wait on the voice of God. A generous life is a reflection of the generous grace God has already given to us.
When we choose to be generous, our life doesn’t decrease, and we don't lose. Rather, our life expands and virtue is added back into our soul.
