Prayers for a Grateful Heart

DAY 5 OF 7

Oh Father,

I came very close to being in a terrible car accident today. Oh God, there were only inches between my vehicle and the other one. It was terrifying. I could see the other driver’s face, and she was just as scared as I was. I sat in my car shaking for several minutes afterward. When I was finally able to take a deep breath, I thought about something incredible—I wonder how many times you’ve protected me? How many times have you saved me that I didn’t know about? How many times when I didn’t even realize I was in danger? How often have you slowed me down (and I got frustrated because I would be late) to keep me from being hurt in an accident—or worse?

I would guess I’ve been oblivious to many, many times I could have been seriously hurt or worse, but you, in your loving-kindness, have protected me over and over.

God, I know for a fact that you have protected me from my foolishness by not giving me what I’ve so boldly asked you for when I’ve been certain this thing, situation, or person would be good for me. I know you’ve kept me from hurting others by reining in my temper and shutting my mouth at just the right time. Thank you so much for your protection. It shows me how very much you love me.

You are my hiding place;

you will protect me from trouble

and surround me with songs of deliverance.
