The Promise of Christmas

DAY 3 OF 20

One of the reasons that Christmas can be so special is that it shows us just how much God loves us. Sure, the Christmas story is filled with crazy events like a virgin birth, angels showing up on Earth to deliver good news, and the arrival of Jesus in an old stable. But beyond that, it’s a story of the way God delights in and loves us, just as the psalmist wrote about here! To demonstrate unfailing love for us, God sent His Son, Jesus, to Earth to rescue us from the weight and consequences of our sins. God didn’t do this because He had to; God did it because He wanted to. Jesus’ birth is the ultimate example of God’s unfailing love for us, and it’s certainly something we can remember and celebrate at Christmas. It’s the reason we celebrate this season at all!

To remind yourself of how much God loves you and to remember what Christmas is all about, read a little more about the very first Christmas in the Bible this week. Check it out in Luke 2:1-20 to start! You can even ask a friend, family member, or someone in your small group to read it with you! As you do, note how the story's details point to God’s unfailing love for His people.

About this Plan

The Promise of Christmas

The birth of Jesus isn’t just a great story; it’s a real event that shows us not just how God loves us but how God’s people (just like us) had to learn to trust in the face of incredibly difficult and, at times, unbelievable circumstances. We’ll be reminded of the humanity in the story and the faith it takes to believe in the promise of Christmas!
