The Promise of ChristmasSýnishorn
As the Christmas season begins, it’s easy to be thankful. School is almost out, a break from work is coming, presents are on the way, and treats are everywhere. But as the season goes on, being thankful can be more difficult. When you’re stuck with your family, when you don’t get the gift you hoped for, when the kids fight all day long, when the bills pile up—those things don’t usually lead to a grateful Christmas spirit!
When you struggle to find something to be thankful for or your attitude of gratitude is tested, you can remember Jesus. He is the reason we celebrate Christmas, and the gifts He gave us are things we can always be thankful for. While shifting your focus to Jesus won’t make all the things that threaten your sense of peace magically go away, it will help you keep your heart in the right place. It will remind you of the truth, even when what you feel or experience may seem contrary. No matter what is happening around you, peace is possible when you let Christ rule in your heart.
To help you stay focused on gratitude and find peace this season, make a list of things you’re thankful for each day this Christmas. Challenge your friends and family to do the same so that you can keep gratitude at the forefront of your season together.

About this Plan
The birth of Jesus isn’t just a great story; it’s a real event that shows us not just how God loves us but how God’s people (just like us) had to learn to trust in the face of incredibly difficult and, at times, unbelievable circumstances. We’ll be reminded of the humanity in the story and the faith it takes to believe in the promise of Christmas!
