Retirement Rocks: A 14-Day Reading Plan for All That Free Time

DAY 4 OF 14

Bob leaned against the RV and flashed a grin in his daughter's direction. "Tell me your thoughts, Brenda. I can take it.” He waited for her response but anticipated critique, not enthusiasm.

“I think it’s a great idea, Pop,” Brenda said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “I mean, I’ll miss you. The kids will miss you. But you and Mom will have a terrific time helping build churches. If this is what you feel the Lord is calling you to do, then how could I question it?”

“Thank you, honey. We will have a terrific time. I can tell you that we’re already having a blast, just with the preparation.” He grinned as joy flooded over him. “I haven’t been this excited since I was a kid with my first bicycle.”

“I’ll bet.”

“And the best news is, we’ll be traveling with old friends and meeting new ones all at the same time. We’re going to start at a little wood-framed church in Valdosta, Georgia, and move on from there to Biloxi, Mississippi. In all, our plan is to help build eight churches by mid-fall. We’ll send you photos every step of the way. We’ll probably even post them on social media.”

“Wonderful!” Brenda gave her father an admiring look. “So, I guess you could say retirement is for the birds, then?”

“Sure is. There’s still a lot of work left to be done, and I’ve got plenty of life left in me.”

“And I’m sure it honors God to watch you minister to others, Pop. I’m so proud of you.”

Doesn’t Bob’s story just thrill your soul? To think, the Lord was giving him an opportunity to rediscover his passion for service. He’s got big plans for you too! Your finest days of service are ahead if you just open yourself up to the possibilities!

Thank You, heavenly Father, for opportunities and open doors! I can’t wait to get started. Amen.
