Daily Bible Reading – August 2023, God’s Saving Word: EncouragementSýnishorn
August 15
Introduction
In the concluding chapter to his letter, the apostle Paul describes the Day of the Lord and cites ways in which believers should be prepared. He also provides final instructions on how believers are to live in the meantime.
Scripture Reading
1 Thessalonians 5:1-28
Today’s Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Be joyful always. Pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.
Reflect
How does Paul describe the Day of the Lord (verses 1-3)? How does he admonish the believers to be prepared (verses 4-11)? Reread verses 12-24. What final instructions does Paul give for living day to day until Christ returns? Are his words relevant for today? Why or why not?
Pray
Gracious God, help me to be joyful, prayerful, and thankful in all circumstances. Teach me to be holy in every way and keep my whole being—spirit, soul, and body—free from every fault at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
2 Thessalonians 1:1-12: The apostle Paul speaks of God's judgment when Christ returns.
