What the Bible Has to Say About ClothingSýnishorn
Put on protective garments
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)
Clothing is necessary not only to cover your body, but also to protect you from the cold and other elements. This is especially true in war, when you are being shot at by enemies. Fortunately, for most of us that is not the case — at least not in the literal sense, but in the figurative sense, it is! The Bible warns us that there is a battle going on between the Lord God and Satan, and we are involved in it. If we take sides with God and want to belong to Him, Satan declares war on us. He will try again and again to make us sin, to sow doubt in our hearts, and to cloud our view of God's glorious future. But we are not defenseless in the face of his attacks! The Lord provides us with a “spiritual armor” that fits the realm in which we live. It is discussed in detail in Ephesians 6. We read about the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, shoes of the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, and the helmet of hope for our eternal salvation. Finally, we get to defend ourselves with the sword of God's Spirit (the Word of God).
You may be shocked to learn that you are at war with spiritual powers. That threat is real indeed. But God is stronger. He offers you the protection you need!
About this Plan
You will not find clothing style advice in the Bible. Nor will you find the latest fashions. Yet God's Word has a lot to say about clothing: why we wear clothes at all, how we should dress, and how God offers us beautiful, spotless clothing to cover our sins. Will you read with us?
