Walking in God's Purpose

DAY 1 OF 6

What is Purpose?

As Ephesians 2:10 alludes to, purpose can be defined as the assignment God has sent you to accomplish or the problem on Earth you were sent to solve.

Of course, if you want to understand the purpose of a product, ask the producer. That’s why manufacturers prepare manuals explaining their inventions’ functionality. God is our manufacturer and producer, and His manual for our lives is His Word. Too often we look everywhere except to our Creator to understand our purpose.

So, the first step towards purpose discovery is developing a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and delving into His Word. Studying other people’s lives on social media won’t lead you any closer to the call of God on your life. You’ll only find your way into purpose when God’s Word becomes your guidebook.

The purpose of a thing isn’t conceived after its creation, but before. That means God had your purpose in mind before He created you. He says to Jeremiah, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as prophet to the nations’ (Jeremiah 1:5). When life throws curveballs your way, it’s encouraging to remember that before you were born, God knew you, and He’d already designed your purpose.

The devil’s main agenda is to steal that purpose. He’ll use your limitations and shortcomings to make you feel unworthy of fulfilling your destiny. When those attacks come, speak out the truth of God’s Word. Who does God say you are? Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Jeremiah looked at the realities of his life and came up with excuses for not serving God. He wasn’t a good speaker. He wasn’t mature enough. God refuted those excuses with the truth that He would equip and empower Jeremiah.

I was in high school when I began to step into my calling. I struggled academically and was told by numerous teachers that I’d never make a success of my life. But in the midst of that shame and pain, God told me to rise up and fulfil the purpose He created me for. People were calling me a failure, but God made it clear that I shouldn’t call myself what He hadn’t called me.

So, what’s your excuse? God can use you to build His Kingdom anywhere, no matter your age or stage of life. Don’t be distracted by the lies of the devil. Don’t look down on yourself. Don’t limit yourself. And certainly, don’t limit God. Don’t tell yourself that you haven’t reached an appropriate age to be used by God. The earlier you discover the purpose of God for your life, the better. May you know today and every day that God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.
