Becoming a Son That Pleases the FatherSýnishorn
MATURITY INTO SONSHIP DUTIES
The revelation that the Holy Spirit gave me from verse 17 of Matthew 3 are two statements in one: “This is my beloved son…” and “…in whom I am well pleased”. These two statements represent the two phases of our life and walk with God as children of God as I mentioned earlier in this month's devotional. The first phase is when the focus of the Father is on showing us His love as His children, while the second phase is when the Father expects us to give Him pleasure as we mature in our relationship with Him.
As a natural father, there is a stage where you give all your love, care, and affection to your newborn child. To you, such a child can never be wrong, and you are completely devoted to that new baby. As years go by and the child grows and matures into adulthood, there is a stage where you, as the father, demand some accountability and responsibility from the child. There is also an eventual stage where your child is expected to take care of you after all the love you have showered on him/her.
As a son or daughter, you should strive to reward your biological parents as long as they are still on this planet. It is your responsibility to reward them for the labour of love expended on you. No parent wants his/her child to remain a baby forever, no matter how much that child is loved. This is the same with God and there is an expectation He has of you as His child.
PRAYER: I grow in the strength and knowledge of God. I keep growing till maturity in Jesus’ name. Amen!
