Seek God First, Always
There is an age-old idiom that speaks of placing the cart before the horse. This is a sentiment used to express that something is being done out of order or against what is the acceptable standard. As believers, when we refuse to consult God first, we are putting the cart before the horse. People who are dreamers, builders, and called to have influence are oftentimes guilty of this more than we'd care to admit.
As the scripture suggests, God must be included in our plans on the front end. Gone are the days of seeking God being an afterthought. We can no longer afford to make our plans, pursue fulfilling those plans, and then add God to the equation at some point. That is the wrong order. That is placing the cart before the horse. Instead, we should always seek to partner with God about any plans we are considering whether it's for business, our career, or our family. When we do this, our plans stand a better chance at succeeding, we can spare ourselves unnecessary troubles and wasted time, and most importantly, we leave room for God to edit and revise our plans to ensure that they fit into the original design He already has for us.
As we continue to strive to live our best lives, let us make sure that God is the center of it all. God admires that we have enough drive to take the initiative to plan for our lives, for our entrepreneurial endeavors, for our church, but He doesn’t want us to become so self-motivated that we become self-dependent. In a state of self-dependency, the standard of seeking God first in all things is compromised and neglected. It is okay to have your plans, but it is the Lord plans that prevail in the end.
Prayer: Father God, in all of my planning, may I seek you first always. I vow to make you my first resort and not the last. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
