Displaying the Greatness of God in Your Life

DAY 1 OF 6

God has created you for consistent application of your life’s mission to bring God glory. To do this well, you need to carry deep insight about two truths simultaneously: mortality and greatness are both inscribed on your life. Finitude and the divine image characterize your existence.

First, you are weak and feeble, unable to contribute to the mission, so you need to be sustained by God. On mortality, feebleness, and finitude, God’s word says:

  • You will not exist on the earth for long. You are not as important as you think you are (James 4:14).
  • You are negligible, disposable, discardable—dust (Genesis 3:19).
  • You are a grasshopper to God—trivial and minor (Isa. 40:22). Grasshoppers have five sets of eyes, but cannot look up. And up is where God is.

Humans are diminutive and immaterial in the comparative status of things. You shouldn’t flirt with God’s Number One rank.

However, if you set your life to it, you can make a specific, unique, vital contribution to God’s glory on the earth. Your fleeting appearance in history can mean and amount to something. You can be an intentional and joyful participant in God’s purposes as His image bearer! The life that you intentionally build on the foundation of godly passion will extend into this mission. The passion will testify to your heartbeat and the mission will testify to your lifestyle. Indeed, God has bestowed Number Two ranking on you—the perfect place for a unique creation to bring Him the greatest glory.

As one made in the image of God, the worlds were created for you

  • to enjoy, discover, and develop as you relate to nature,
  • to be the arena where you represent God,
  • to bring God glory. To reveal His honor. To receive His revelation. To reflect His character.

“A man should carry two stones in his pocket,” goes a Middle Eastern proverb. “On one should be inscribed, ‘I am but dust and ashes.’ On the other: ‘For my sake was the world created.’ And he should use each stone as he needs its reminder.”

Yet just because every life is special does not mean every life is strategic. Work to intentionally reflect God’s glory through your life.
