Uncommen: Called

DAY 1 OF 5

Wrong Number

Exodus 4:1 ~ Then Moses answered, "But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, The Lord did not appear to you."
Exodus 4:10 ~ But Moses said to the Lord, "Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue."
Exodus 4:13 ~ But he said, "Oh, my Lord, please send someone else."

If God had called Moses by phone, I feel that Moses would have said, "you have the wrong number."

We don't expect to be called by God often. If we are honest, we probably never expect to be called. Someone else would be a better choice if they had time for it. Have you ever had a guest speaker from a far-off land of mission work? After hearing them speak, you're thinking, well, sure, they can go because they don't have a family or a job. We do not know that many missionaries are indeed married. They may even have children and uproot the whole family to go.

If we knew before the missionary spoke a word, we have reasons.

  • I'm not qualified
  • I don't have time
  • I have a job
  • I'm scared
  • I struggle to speak about Jesus to people
  • I have plans

Growing up in the palace, he had a lot of plans. But God overturned the applecart and put Moses on the path of leading a nation. As we can see in our scripture verses of Exodus 4:1 and 4:10, Moses had his excuses of why he couldn't go. God answered every excuse with the solution.

As we see, God spends the following few verses 4:2-9 removing that excuse by showing Moses His power.

In verse 10, Moses tells God he can't speak well. In verses 11 and 12, we see God remove that excuse.

In verse 13, we read Moses is desperate and says, But he said, "Oh, my Lord, please send someone else."

Then God got angry: Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said, "Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well."

You can almost hear God say, "I said, Go!"

Questions:

Is God calling you to do something?

Are you giving Him excuses why you can't?

Challenge:

I challenge us all to respond to God's calling in our lives. If God wants us to do something, it's in our best interest to do it. Are we willing?

About this Plan

Uncommen: Called

We have all been called to spread the Gospel. The question is, have you answered? With caller ID, voicemail, do not disturb and more, we can hide quite well. Let’s take a look at some of the people God called in the Bible and how they responded. You may find you have something in common.
