Faith Foundations - How to Follow JesusSýnishorn
In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus says that anyone who listens to His teachings is like a wise person who builds a house on solid rock. The person who doesn’t obey His teachings is foolish, like a person who builds their house on sand.
Don’t you think building a house on a rock is better than building it on sand?
Just like it’s a smart choice to build a home on a rock, it’s a smart choice to follow Jesus.
But what does Jesus tell us to do?
Jesus gives us those answers in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). This sermon gives us an outline or example of what it means to follow Jesus. When the people heard what He was saying they were probably confused because following Jesus often means living a life that looks very different from others. But Jesus tried to help them understand why it was important for them to live differently from other people around them. Before we learn about what Jesus asks us to do, let’s learn about why He calls us to live in a different way.
Read: Matthew 5:13-16; Matthew 7:24-27
Reflect: How are you like salt or a city on a hill? Read Matthew 5:16 again. Why does God want our good deeds to shine for all to see?
Pray: Thank God for allowing you to be an example to others so that they will praise God. Ask God to help you continue being salt and light to the world by doing good things.
