A Strong Foundation
It is so important that we build strong foundations. During the Christchurch earthquake in 2011, the CTV building collapsed, and tragically, 115 people lost their lives. It later came out that the construction supervisor had faked his engineering degree; he didn’t know how to build strong foundations. It didn’t matter what kind of business was being housed in the building, or what it looked like on the outside, or even if its floor plan was well designed, its shaky foundations gave way.
Even before Solomon began to build the temple, his father David had laid some firm foundations, including a foundational relationship with Hiram, who would provide the cedar and juniper logs from Lebanon, and the “collection of a hundred thousand talents of gold, a million talents of silver, quantities of bronze and iron too great to be weighed, and wood and stone” (1 Chr. 22:14). God added to Solomon’s strong foundation too with gifts of wisdom and wealth.
Since the outpouring of the Spirit, we are God’s temple (1 Cor. 3:16). Jesus is our cornerstone, our firm foundation. We will all face trials in our life. Will our hidden foundation prove to be strong enough to stand up to the storms of life and the passing of time? Will we have spent our time on temporal, earthly concerns or eternal, heavenly treasures? We are to build on a firm foundation, Jesus Christ, the solid rock of our salvation.
Thought Point
What is the foundation of your relationship with Jesus?
Prayer Point
Ask God to help you build on the firm foundation of Jesus, to be more concerned with His Way, Truth, and Life and less concerned with what’s only for show.
