DAY 3 OF 21

Day 3: Come Receive Your Inheritance

Come Before Him in Worship: Take a moment to imagine the Father running toward you to embrace you as his child. Hear him saying, “my child, you are always with me, and all that is Mine is yours.” Slow down and actively receive his love. Enter into his presence understanding that, in Christ, you have access to the very heart and love of the Father.

Reflect: In this passage, the Father assures the eldest son of something that he had either failed to fully appreciate or believe: the high privilege of being his heir. He lovingly and gently promises his angry son that he is always with him, that he constantly lives in the light of the Father’s favor, and all that he (the Father) has is his, for that is the birthright of a true child of the father. It isn’t something earned or deserved. This is the cry of God’s heart to us, his children. He would have us live every moment in the full light of his favor and trust his heart toward us, knowing that all that is his, is ours! And not by our efforts! But by the free gift of grace through faith in the person and work of Jesus.

Respond in Prayer: Father, is there anything that I am still trying to earn from you? Reveal to me any unbelief in my heart regarding who I am to you. Where am I resistant to receive the fullness of your love for me? How can I let you love me more?

Jesus, teach me how to receive my identity as a child of God. I look to you as my example. Holy Spirit, reveal my glorious inheritance to me by unveiling the immeasurable riches of your grace to my understanding.
