Lazarus, Come Forth Out of the Tomb

DAY 4 OF 4

If You Stay In The Grave...

You will be judged for what God has placed in your hands. Therefore, you should not pass your responsibilities to others when God has called you.

A teenage prophetess was at a Christian concert at the beginning of her ministry. She felt a sense of restlessness from God to pray for another young woman who was nearby but unknown to her. The prophetess was very afraid, since it was the first time she had felt such a concern for a stranger. She quickly consulted her mother who had accompanied her, and described what she was feeling. Her mother wisely responded, "No one should be denied a prayer." These words made the prophetess take courage in approaching the young woman to pray for her. During the prayer, God began to use her by rebuking a spirit of suicide that disturbed that young woman. At the end of the prayer, the unknown woman stated: "Thank you for that prayer, I had plans to take my life." What would have happened if the prophetess had not prayed as her concern indicated at that time? God will call us to account for the talents and gifts that have been given to us. In the aforementioned example, had the prophetess not extended her support as an intercessor in prayer, there was the possibility that the young woman would have taken her own life. God would call her to account for that lost soul, which could have been saved with her prayer.

Many times the insecurities and fears do not allow us to put into practice the gifts and ministries that God hands to us. This was what happened to Moses when God called him to free His people who were enslaved. His first excuse was: "I am slow of speech.", but God gave him all the tools to carry out the task at hand and with excellence. Impressive how God can glorify himself through our presupposed weaknesses.

If you stay in the cave, like the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 19, you will miss the blessing of seeing how God can save many lives through you. He set you free from bondage so you can put to use the gifts and ministries He has given you. Shake off the fear and insecurities, like dust that falls off an old coat, gird your loins for the mission at hand. Come out of the darkness and be everything God has called you to be!

Think about these questions:

  • Can you identify any excuse you’ve used that has delayed God's plans with your life?
  • What would have happened to God's people, if Moses had insisted on shielding himself with his insecurities?
