Uncommen: Rest BoldlySýnishorn
Rest in God
Dennis Olsen, with Working Preacher, notes something profound about passaged from Exodus: "Moses knows that the only basis for rebuilding the broken covenant relationship between God and people rests on who God is. The people's hope does not rest on who the people are or what the people do. Without God, the Israelites are no better than the Egyptians (Exodus 33:4-6; see Exodus 12:35-36). As a result, Moses pleads to see and know more deeply God's "ways" (Exodus 33:13), God's "glory" (Exodus 33:18), God's "goodness" (Exodus 33:19), God's "name" (Exodus 33:19)."
In Exodus 33:12-17, we see Moses pleading with God to know God's ways, have God's presence, and be God's people. As a result, God gives them rest (v. 15). Importantly, as believers in today's world, we have all of these things as well.
We can know God's ways because of His Word. It's plainly there. It instructs us well. It's exhaustive and comprehensive. It's perfect!
God's presence is within us because of the Holy Spirit. He dwells within us. His presence is forever with us when we believe.
Finally, we can trust that we are indeed God's people when we believe. We are adopted into His family and granted eternal life. Because of these things, we can have real, true rest. So, really, what it takes is belief. We must first believe in God. From there, we trust and rest in God's work.
If we were to take it a step further, we could know more about God by deeply studying His Word. Certainly, each of us should be in it daily for our own encouragement and conviction. However, we can dive deeper with thoughtful study to know more about our wondrous God. This is not meant to be hard work but is an intended action of rest. Rest in God by knowing him more.
Uncommen Questions:
How can we have rest?
Why do we need rest?
Uncommen Challenge:
Rest in God by knowing him more.

About this Plan
Join us as we take a look at what it means to rest boldly in God. While we were created with a purpose, we were also given space to rest and we’ll look at several situations in which to do that…boldly!
