Captive No More: Freedom From Pain, Shame and Guilt

DAY 10 OF 30

Unforgiveness

But if you do not forgive others their sins,
your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:15

It’s pretty simple. If you do not forgive others, God will not forgive you. Because God commands us to forgive, the fact that we either can’t or won’t is a direct attack on God’s word. In other words, not forgiving is a sin, and a sin you will not be forgiven for because you’ve refused or failed to forgive others. Once we place ourselves into an environment of separation from God, there are a ton of adverse effects just waiting to happen.

Remember the three keys to genuinely forgive someone:

1.Repent – Unforgiveness is a sin, so before forgiving those who have sinned against you, take the time to repent for your own sin of unforgiving.

2.Release – We’ve talked about judgments against others, and their effect on our own lives. To genuinely forgive, we must break the curse and release the judgment against others.

3.Bless – God is very clear that it’s a two-step process. Not only must we forgive those who have sinned against us, but we must bless them.

Please remember that God dearly loves those whom we may hate.

Call To Action

  1. Write out why you either cannot, will not, or refuse to forgive others.
  2. Write out the names of 3 people you need to forgive.
  3. Write out separately in detail what each person’s offenses were.
  4. Write out a prayer of forgiveness for each person

About this Plan

Captive No More: Freedom From Pain, Shame and Guilt

“Suck it up.” Those words empowered and encouraged me as a boy. They injured me as a man. When we talk about pain, we first think of physical pain from injury or accident. There is a masculine, internal block on the notion of our emotions or feelings being hurt. How could they be, we’re men after all!
