The Wisdom of Remembering & the Wisdom to ForgetSýnishorn
The disciples should remember Jesus’s words
Before Jesus was arrested and crucified, He had told his disciples several times what would happen to him. But they did not grasp it because this was so contrary to their hopes and expectations. So, when Jesus was killed and buried, they did not even think of his words that He would rise on the third day! Some women came to his grave to take care of his body, but instead of the corpse, they found two angels there. These angels told them to remember Jesus’s words about his coming death and resurrection. The great news that Jesus had conquered death had long been foretold! Jesus had told them beforehand everything they needed to know; they just needed to be reminded of his words.
So, although Jesus’s followers had not expected him to rise from the dead, this reminder made the announcement of the angels a whole lot more credible to them. It made clear that Jesus was not taken by surprise when He was arrested, and that his resurrection had always been part of God’s eternal salvation plan. How comforting this must have been amidst all their doubt and confusion!
Does the fact that Jesus foretold his death and resurrection strengthen your faith in him?
