Fall in Love With God's Word: Practical Strategies for Busy Women

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: Making Wise Decisions in Line with God’s Word

Growing up in a Christian family (the daughter of a preacher’s kid, no less), I thought I had the Bible pretty much figured out. I was certainly around it enough.

We regularly went to church on Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights. I was in youth group, church choir, and praise band. I attended Bible studies, devoured Christian Living books, and read through the Bible on my own more than once. I even graduated with honors from a top-rated Bible College.

And yet, you can imagine my surprise, when, at twenty-seven years old, I realized that a significant portion of what I had been taught about the Bible wasn’t actually Biblical at all.

While I don’t fault those who taught me incorrectly (they probably didn’t know either), this is why it’s so important that we don’t just read other people’s interpretations of Scripture, but we also read God’s Word for ourselves.

Because what happens if your pastor loses sight of Biblical truth and starts focusing only on the feel-good pseudo-Biblical messages that lead to greater church growth? What happens if your favorite Christian author starts unintentionally sharing New Age thinking alongside the Bible verses she’s unknowingly taking out of context?

Would you even notice? Would you be able to separate the truth from the lie?

Romans 12:2 instructs us, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

In today’s society, there is no shortage of opinions on what God wants or what we should or shouldn’t do. It’s easy to find conflicting life advice everywhere you look.

This is why it is so crucial that you are in the Word for yourself. Because when you better know and understand God’s character, values, desires, and plan, you’re in a much better position to live according to them.

The world is happy to give you plenty of conflicting advice that doesn’t quite line up with God’s Word. May we be women of the Word who seek to hear and follow God’s will above all else.

Today’s Challenge: Are there any decisions you’re currently wrestling over or situations you’re not sure how to handle? Ask God to give you wisdom and insight, then go to God’s Word. What wisdom and direction does God have for you today?
