Authentic Kingdom Culture – A New And Better Covenant!Sýnishorn
Kingdom Culture vs. Church Culture
In this plan, we will dive into kingdom culture, but we won’t be concerned with form and ritual. We want to get to the heart of kingdom culture - kingdom values. We want to discover and meditate on the things that are valued by our King – Jesus. What the King values is at the root of all Kingdom culture and should be what we value as well. What moves Him should move us!
Sometimes the values we see expressed by the church are not those of the King. What’s more, we get caught up in only surface expressions; the genre of music, the format of the service, ignoring the deeper issue – the heart of the King. In my experience, one of the most prevalent reasons for this misalignment is because we operate out of an Old Testament mindset. Often, our culture is being shaped by a covenant that has been obsolete for over 2,000 years and, more importantly, has been superseded by something so much better!
As the author of Hebrews 8:6-7, 13 (ESV) says:
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.
In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
There is a new covenant on planet earth and understanding this new covenant is critical to understanding the nature of the kingdom that Christ preached!
As we journey through this plan together, each day will be devoted to a New Covenant kingdom value. For each value, we will juxtapose the New Covenant paradigm against the Old Covenant mindset. It is my prayer that each day as we examine the heart of Jesus for us, it will light a fire within us. It is my prayer that we will be so enthralled by the heart of Christ for us that it will forever change the way we do… everything!
Points to pray/journal:
- What are the characteristics of the New Covenant in contrast to the Old Covenant?
- Do I have more of an Old Covenant or New Covenant mindset?

About this Plan
When Jesus came in the flesh, died and resurrected, He unleashed in the world a new covenant reality - the kingdom of God. At the heart of this new covenant are the values of our King and the cultural transformation He longs to see in the world. This plan is a daily discovery of what moves Jesus’ heart. I pray that each day our hearts are made more like His!
