The Influencers Responsibility: How Our Likes, Followers, and Subscribers Can Have Eternal Significance

DAY 3 OF 4

Recently I was reading John 7 and came across a passage of scriptures that I believe is significant with regards to our responsibility as influencers. In this passage of scripture, in an attempt to get Jesus to grow his influence quickly, his brothers tried to encourage him to come to a festival and do miracles. They said to him,

"You can't become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, then show yourself to the world."

Ultimately, they were trying to increase his following by getting him to prematurely present his solution to the masses. At that moment, Jesus could have easily lost sight of his responsibility and the impact of his influence. Yet, he was not drawn into the pressure to perform but instead led by the responsibility to remain until it was his time.

Being a Kingdom influencer is not about prestige, power, or performance. It is about responsibility, redemption, and restoration. No matter how big or small your platform you are called to release the God-centered solutions you carry to your sphere of influence at the appropriate time. Not a minute too early or too late!

When we focus on God, He focuses on what concerns us. Just like he did with Abraham in Genesis 12:1-2 when he says," Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father's family and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others."

What was the difference between the proposition presented to Jesus by his brothers vs the one presented to Abraham by God? One form of fame would require the building of self and the other required the dying to self. One was a promise and the other was a proposition. One was led by love, the other was led by selfish ambition.

Where do you fall in this scenario? If you find yourself being motivated by the masses rather than the master, I want to invite you to take a moment and pray. Repent and ask God to cleanse your heart of anything within you that desires fame, promotion, or position more than His will. Choose to be open to how he wants to make his name great within you and watch what he does for you.
