In But Not Of: Here, But Not Home—Part 1

DAY 5 OF 5

Give God’s Words

KNOW. GLORIFY. REVEAL.

You’ve heard it said before, “Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” The longer you live, the more you realize what a load of bologna that is. Words do hurt. The Bible says that our words have the power to bring life or death to the people around us. We must use our words carefully as we live in the in-between here, but not home. God is not finished working in and through us. You are invited to know God deeply, to glorify God fully, and to reveal God daily.

Jesus got specific in how He helped reveal the Father to those who God had given. In John 17:8 He said, “…for I have passed on to them the message you gave me…” As Jesus connected to His Father, God gave Him the words to say to those around Him. Sometimes these were words of encouragement. Other times Jesus had to rebuke and convict the people around Him. No matter what, though, Jesus never spoke anything He didn’t first hear His Father say to Him.

One of the best ways we can reveal God to those around us is by giving them God’s words. As you spend time with Jesus, He will transform the way you speak to people. Can you imagine what would change if you only spoke the words you heard God saying? Gossip would be gone. Bullying would be no more. Comments would become encouraging, and DMs would be a blessing. You won’t know God’s words if you never listen to Him.

You have a purpose while you are here, but not home. Know God, glorify God, reveal God, and give God’s Word.

Spend time in God’s Word today so that you can hear the kind of words God wants you to speak to those around you.

About this Plan

In But Not Of: Here, But Not Home—Part 1

As believers, we live in the tension of the hope that is coming and the reality of the present. This tension is summed up in the longest recorded prayer of Jesus in John 17 as He prays to God over His disciples and all believers to live in this tension in such a way that brings glory, honor, and understanding to His name. Part 1.
