In But Not Of: Here, But Not Home—Part 1

DAY 2 OF 5

Know God

C.S. Lewis, who wrote The Chronicles of Narnia said, “There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.”

The life we live here on earth is but a moment. It is but a speck of sand in the grand shore of eternity. Remembering this world isn’t your home and that you were made for more is so important, but it can lead to homesickness. That homesickness can quickly lead to laziness and missed opportunities. So, how do we keep our purpose in mind while recognizing there is far more to come?

The Bible passage you read yesterday (John 17:1-10) notes four things Jesus did while He was here, but not home. Over the next four days, we want to look at the purpose Jesus found while He was here. You are invited to make His life’s passion and purpose yours, as well.

Jesus said in John 17:3 NLT, “And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.” While we are here and not home, we should make it our life’s passion to know God. When you make Jesus the Lord of your life and trust Him to be the Savior from your sins, you receive the gift of eternal life with God in heaven. This isn’t a promise for later, but a promise for right now. Life with Jesus starts now, and eternal life on earth starts with knowing God. You grow in knowing God through experience.

How can you know God more today?

What would you have wanted Jesus to pray about for you specifically before He died?

Over the next few days, we will see that unity is exactly what Jesus wanted for us, then and now.

About this Plan

In But Not Of: Here, But Not Home—Part 1

As believers, we live in the tension of the hope that is coming and the reality of the present. This tension is summed up in the longest recorded prayer of Jesus in John 17 as He prays to God over His disciples and all believers to live in this tension in such a way that brings glory, honor, and understanding to His name.
