Daily Bible Reading - October 2020: God’s Life-Giving Word of Justice and PeaceSýnishorn
October 15
Introduction
Today’s reading offers a thorough condemnation of the worship practices of other Canaanite religions. God is the Holy One who dwells on high yet is present on earth with those who are humble and repentant. God promises peace and healing for all of God’s people.
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 57:1-21
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 57:15
[The LORD says:] “I am the high and holy God, who lives forever. I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are humble and repentant, so that I can restore their confidence and hope.”
Reflect
Reread verses 14-21. The LORD’s home is pictured as being in the heavens, far removed from human beings. Yet God promises to be near the people, healing them, leading them and comforting them. How do you experience the nearness of God’s presence today? How does God provide healing, leadership, and comfort?
Pray
Lord God, no matter where I am, you have the power to heal me and give me peace. I am sorry for the times when I have let idols distract me from your love. Thank you for your steadfast love, comfort, grace, and mercy. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those seeking to experience God’s presence in their midst
Tomorrow’s Reading
Isaiah 58:1-14: False piety is contrasted with true worship.
