Daily Bible Reading - October 2020: God’s Life-Giving Word of Justice and PeaceSýnishorn
October 14
Introduction
Today’s reading is from a section in Isaiah (chapters 49-55) that pertains to the restoration of Jerusalem. The people were sent away as captives because of their sins, and God alone has the power to restore them. The LORD’s servant is obedient and exhorts the people to trust in and rely on God.
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 50:1-11
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 50:10b
…trust in the LORD, rely on your God.
Reflect
Today’s reading opens with images of God as a husband and father. What do these images convey about God’s relationship with the Israelites? What questions does God ask in verses 1 and 2? What do verses 4-9 convey about the speaker’s relationship with God? Verse 10 indicates the speaker is the LORD’s servant. What has this servant endured (verse 6)? What does the servant say to the people in verses 10 and 11? In what ways do you exhibit your trust in and reliance on God?
Pray
Sovereign Lord, each day I am eager to learn what you will teach me. Thank you for giving me understanding as I daily meditate on your holy Word. Teach me to obey your words and to trust in and rely on you. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those speaking out against injustice
Tomorrow’s Reading
Isaiah 57:1-21: Israel’s idolatry is condemned.
