Love God Greatly: Jesus Our EverythingSýnishorn
Moses is another great example of faith in the Old Testament. Moses endured much, and he chose to suffer for Christ’s sake rather than enjoy the pleasures of Egyptian royalty. The author’s use of “suffered for Christ” in this passage has slightly different interpretations. However, the most likely interpretation is that the author wanted to make a connection for the audience between Moses’ life and theirs by explaining how Moses endured for the sake of God’s promise.
Moses believed God’s promise that a Messiah (Christ) would one day come to redeem God’s people. Moses endured suffering and left Egypt because he was convinced of God’s promise. He believed because he knew the One he could not see (God) would be faithful to him no matter his circumstances.
We have the privilege of living on this side of the cross, knowing that the work of the then-coming Messiah is complete. Our endurance is not in waiting for a Messiah to come, but in believing He will come again. We can be confident the suffering we experience will bring about endurance, and endurance is our expression of confidence that God will keep His promises. Like Moses, may we have faith to endure suffering for the cause of Christ.
Father God, give me endurance. Help me to keep my eyes and my life focused on Your promises. Help me not to be caught up in the pleasures of the world that I lose sight of Your plan and purpose for my life. I want to grow in my endurance so I can be faithful to You. Amen.
