Love God Greatly: Jesus Our EverythingSýnishorn
Abraham believed God. Abraham’s faith marked him as righteous before God. His faith was not only unprecedented, but generationally impactful. Abraham believed God in the face of God asking him to do strange, unheard of things. Abraham traveled to an unknown land, lived as a foreigner, and almost sacrificed his own son because of God’s command. Abraham’s faithfulness impacted his family for generations.
Sarah had great faith as she saw the example of her husband. Even though she doubted, she believed God would give her a child in her old age. Isaac believed God, blessing his children in the face of uncertainty and still living as a foreigner in the land God promised to give them. Jacob and Joseph’s faith continued to bless their families as they clung to the hope that God would one day give them what He’d promised.
Though Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph did not see the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise to them, God was faithful to give them glimpses that He was working. Their faith was extraordinary because they continued to believe God even in the midst of their doubt. May we be like Abraham, clinging to God’s promises regardless of our circumstances and impact our families and communities for generations to come.
Lord God, I want a faith like Abraham’s. Help me to cling to Your promises regardless of how I feel or what You ask of me. Help me to cling to You, not to what You have given me. You are faithful, and I want to follow You wherever You lead. Amen.
