5 Prayers to Pray for Your Grandchildren Sýnishorn
God, Make My Grandchildren Lights
We want our grandchildren to shine as lights in a dark world. This requires diligent effort because everyone must struggle against internal sin and sin in the world around them. Temptation follows our grandchildren around. Yet believers are called to stand out, to be lights in the darkness!
Jesus spoke on this topic when he compared our lives to light in Matthew 5:16 (NIV): “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Later, when talking about this kind of obedience, Paul urges us to do something that many children struggle with daily. He urges us to “do everything without grumbling or arguing” (Philippians 2:14, NIV). And parents and grandparents everywhere agree!
When believers, no matter what age, live without grumbling and complaining, they stand out. In fact, the passage we’ll read today says we become blameless and pure, children of God, without fault in a warped and crooked generation. What a great basis for praying for our grandchildren!
Suggested Prayer:
“Father God, I pray that my grandchildren will learn to do everything without grumbling or arguing so they may become blameless and pure children of yours without fault in a warped and crooked generation.
May they shine like stars as they hold firmly to the Word of Life. May I be faithful to train them in your Word so their foundation will be strong and they will have a growing relationship with you.
I also pray for children around the world who live in poverty or other difficult circumstances. May you surround them with godly influences who train them to look to you for strength and wisdom. May they shine like stars in their worlds, causing others to find you. Amen.”
Scripture: Philippians 2:14-16
