5 Prayers to Pray for Your Grandchildren Sýnishorn
God, Lead My Grandchildren
We all want God to lead our grandchildren. We may want God to lead them to straight A's (or even C's) or to a career field that will provide for their needs. Or maybe we want God to lead them away from friends who influence them to make wrong choices.
Our verse today declares that God leads us based on his righteousness. God is righteous, which means that he cannot and will not pass over wrongdoing. This is instrumental in our salvation because, for our sins to be forgiven, Jesus had to have our sins placed on him.
So what does God’s righteousness have to do with his ability to lead us? Why did David call on God’s righteousness when he asked for God to lead him because of his enemies?
First, God doesn’t tolerate sin. David declares that we need God’s salvation. Second, because of God’s righteousness, he is relentlessly good. He provided a way of salvation through Jesus. Based on God’s righteousness, he will make our way straight.
David wanted to follow God’s right way, and this prayer reflects his heart. The Lord will never lead us down the road of sin but down paths of righteousness. David prayed that he would walk down the road that was smooth and level, free from the potholes of sin.
We can pray this verse for our grandchildren. May God make their way straight.
Suggested Prayer:
“Father God, I declare your righteousness, and I’m thankful that I can rely on you to lead my grandchildren. Lead them because of your righteousness. Take them by the hand and guide them down straight paths.
Help them overcome the obstacles of sin and the temptations that want to attack them. Help them follow closely after you.
I pray also for children around the world who have the same goal of walking your path. Their circumstances may be different than those of my own grandchildren, but they need you to lead them as well.
I ask that your wisdom would be their guide and that they would set you as the foundation of their lives and find a path out of the despair of poverty or whatever difficult circumstance they face. Make their ways straight. Amen.”
Scripture: Psalms 5:8
