A Mom's Identity In Christ

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: Purpose as a Christ Follower

When I became a Christ follower as a young girl in my dad’s church, I knew minimally what it meant to be a follower of Christ. I knew the basics as many of you know, I believed that he died on the cross for our sins so that we might be free and forgiven. As my walk progressed, I understood about bringing his word to all nations and creating disciples. I don’t want you to be confused into thinking that just because I knew that, that I knew how to create disciples. I watched Christians bark scriptures at new believers or non-believers. It made me wonder if they have stopped to break down that scripture and equally as important, have they demonstrated those scriptures in their daily lives. We are of flesh: we fall short of his glory every day, but his ever-lasting grace and mercy keep us. So, as Christians we are not here to bark scripture and to judge, but to show Jesus through our actions and always be approachable. Jesus was brought to us in the flesh so he would be relatable (approachable). As a mom and a Christ follower we are commissioned to show up in our own lives, starting at home. Your sweet babies should be some of your greatest disciples.

Being a Christ follower takes grit and mental strength. It will strengthen a faint heart. That muscle that is built is unmatched by anything in your life. Carrying out his word and being the salt and light of the world is fulfilling. I say these things because many seasoned followers I have come across make it look so easy, right? Even for them it was not easy, and it is not easy, but to watch them is an encouragement if you know what you are looking at.

Prayer:  Jesus you know my heart. You know all that I carry. Lord, teach me to pray fervently with the faith that it has already been done. Each chance you give me to breathe and grace this earth, I pray that I carry out your great commission and not my own.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

1. What is my walk as a Christ follower? Is it where I want to be?

2. What would it look like to move the chains on what is holding me back from a fruitful walk with Christ? Is it doable? What’s tripping me up?

Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 28:1-6; Matthew 19:14
