"No Limits To His Power Over Satan"
“Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.” With that monotone threat, the alien Borg collective announced the imminent defeat of the starship "Enterprise" and her crew. Captain Picard needed all of his resources to save the ship and its people.
I know where the "Star Trek" scriptwriters got their material for this story. They lifted it from Satan’s ongoing marketing campaigns. Satan wants you to stop struggling, stop trying to live a moral life, stop believing that there’s anything worth living for, stop denying yourself, and just surrender to your appetites and desires. “Resistance is futile,” he whispers. “Everybody lives like this now. The earth is mine. God is gone, but I am here. It is your destiny to be part of my kingdom.”
What a thrill to know that that depressing message is a lie. Jesus’ acceptance of our guilt, humble suffering, horrible crucifixion, sad burial, and triumphant resurrection have won a permanent victory. Satan’s power is broken. Jesus won.
On one of their training tours His disciples got a little taste of this victory: “The seventy-two returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name.’ He replied, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you’” (Luke 10:17-19).
Seriously. You are safe in Jesus’ arms. Soon you’ll see. Soon.
