[The Love Of God] Crazy And Compelling Love Sýnishorn
Know God
Martin Luther once said: “Learn to know Christ and Him crucified. Learn to sing to Him, and say: Lord Jesus, You are my righteousness, I am Your sin. You have taken upon Yourself what is mine and given me what is Yours. You have become what You were not so that I might become what I was not."
One of the most important things in Christianity is to know God. We cannot believe in someone we do not know. We cannot trust in someone we do not know. We cannot accept and receive the love of a person we do not know. For us to believe, trust, and accept God and His love for us, we must first know Him.
Knowing God can be a feeling as much as it can be an understanding. We come to know God through His word, through attending church, and through growing in our relationship with Him. As it is with any human-to-human relationship, so it is with our relationship with God. The more time we spend with Him—praying, praising Him, worshiping Him, reading the Bible—the more we get to know who He is.
The entire purpose of the Bible is to help us to know God. The Bible reveals who God is to us. It reveals His character and His plan for mankind. It is through knowing God that we can receive His love.
Imagine being in a relationship with someone you know nothing about. Would you be able to trust that person, or receive their love and affection, if you knew nothing about them? Consider how you would feel not knowing where they come from, their middle name, their likes and dislikes, or what makes them happy or sad. That is not a good way to keep a relationship. Our relationship with God is the same. We cannot have a relationship with God unless we know Him.
When we know God, when we start seeking Him, He starts revealing Himself to us, and revealing all His promises to us. The more we get to know Him, the more we understand Him, and the more we discover His perfect love for us and the plans He has for our lives.
