[The Love Of God] Crazy And Compelling Love

DAY 1 OF 7

Crazy Love

True love can make you seem crazy. It can make you do crazy things. Think about your first crush, or about when you first started dating someone. Everything you saw made you think of that person. You saw a lamp and it reminded you of your crush. You were writing poems and drawing hearts on every piece of paper you could find. Did you find yourself acting in ways that were unfamiliar to you? That is what love can do. It can change us; it can make us seem crazy.

This does not mean that the love of God will make us do something illegal or wrong. On the contrary, it makes us act in a good, positive, legal, life-giving way, in a way that for some people might seem crazy. We do things like reading a 2000-year-old book, or “talking to the ceiling” when we pray. The love of God causes us to have faith that things will get better even when there seems to be no way out of a bad situation. It causes us to have faith in God and all of His promises, and to have faith that the blood of Jesus makes us clean as snow and that we will have eternal life with God in heaven. It might seem crazy to some, but that is what the crazy love of God does in us.

This is the crazy kind of love we receive from God: That He sent His only Son to die for us, so that all of us could be saved and live in heaven, with Him, forever. He made us in His image and gave us all living things on Earth as a gift to us to take care of and enjoy! We find endless demonstrations of the crazy love of God for us in the Bible. And we are constantly finding evidence of His crazy love for us in our daily lives. Only someone who is crazy in love would leave 99 sheep alone to go find the one that got lost. That is what God does for us. He is so crazy in love with each one of us that He would do anything to be with us.

When we know and receive the crazy love of God in our lives, we start living out that crazy love ourselves. As the love of God infiltrates our lives, our actions will not seem logical to others.  That love compels us into doing things that are no longer about us, but about others. And it makes us live crazy lives for God and His Kingdom.
