The Domino EffectSýnishorn
Paul continues his journey to Ephesus and battles mano a mano with their man-made god, Artemis. The temple of Artemis is considered to be one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Everyone worshipped Artemis, like you and I worship SEC football, sweet tea, and Bluebell ice cream (shout out to my Texas people!) The silversmiths in the area began to put two and two together. If the Ephesian people began to worship Jesus and not Artemis, then they would stop buying their trinkets and idols. As you read the silversmith’s conversation, you see them talking about what it will cost them if people follow Jesus. What would happen to them personally if they began to believe in Jesus?
Has following Jesus cost you anything? Are you afraid of diving all in because of what it might cost you? Jesus understands the pull of materialism. He even warned his followers that they could not serve two masters in Matthew 6. Can you run faster to Jesus during this next season, despite not knowing the cost of following him?
