Her Children Arise

DAY 3 OF 10

The Shunammite Woman

Weeping Forward

The Shunammite woman’s life stood in sharp contrast to Hagar’s. Though she seemed to be content with everything she had, the prophet Elisha saw the one thing she desired – a son.  Similar to Hagar in the desert, the Shunammite woman’s journey began with a mother’s greatest fear becoming a reality.

However, instead of being immobilized by grief, she held on to hope and took action by running to God. She did not first go to her husband or to Elisha’s servant. She didn’t run to her #bestie or social media, nor did she make any stops on her way. She was single-minded in her pursuit of God who – through Elisha – would bring healing to her son. Step-by-step, she chose to weep forward and her faith drew her closer to God.

As we study the Bible, digging in deeper every day, we come to know God. The more we know Him, seeking God first becomes second nature instead of an afterthought. We must make the decision each moment to put one foot in front of the other to run to Him with our grief, despair, fear, anxiety, anger, insecurities and sin. When we are feeling most broken and on the edge of falling apart, we need to seek Him in His Kingdom and take refuge there!

About this Plan

Her Children Arise

In Her Children Arise, explore the Bible through the lens of a mother as we delve into the stories of moms in scripture such as Jochebed, Hagar, Rahab, Bathsheba and more! Whether we are in the desert or on the bank of the Nile, a queen or foreigner in a new land, God meets us mothers exactly where we are and equips us to raise His most precious gifts.
