BLESSED ARE THE HUMBLE
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus…He humbled himself. Philippians 2:5,8
Jesus said that if you want to be great in the kingdom of God, you need to be the least. Then God Himself will raise you up. Humility is the mark of a child of God. My friend, if we don’t humble ourselves, God will humble us. I’m sick and tired of hearing about men and women of God falling from the way. Young people want to know what the truth is. If we start to seek after downward mobility, we won’t be so quick to divorce and marry someone else. We won’t be so quick to put our fingers in the till. We won’t be so quick to lift ourselves up.
We’d rather go and hide. St. Francis of Assisi was asked to pray for a specific child in a little town in Italy. The child’s body was twisted, his limbs all contorted.
Francis of Assisi didn’t want to pray for the child, because he didn’t want to receive God’s glory if the child was healed. But the people pleaded, “Please, do it for the child’s sake.”
This man of God prayed a simple prayer. That young child just unwound and relaxed. The people were ecstatic. They couldn’t believe what God had just done.
After five minutes they started looking for the man of God so that they could worship him. Francis of Assisi was nowhere to be found. This humble servant of God believed the glory belongs to the Lord.
Lord Jesus, to You belong the glory. Make me humble and meek by the work of Your Spirit in me. Amen
