Day 2 – Bless the Heart of God
Did you know you can bless the heart of God?
Yesterday, we talked about the joy and freedom repentance can bring. But what’s also true of repentance is the change-in-posture effect it has on our hearts.
When you focus only on what you can get from God, the posture of your heart reflects that. Your focus becomes set on the things you have instead of what God has already done for you. And that affects every area of your life. It affected every area of mine!
But when I started resting in God’s presence, not focusing only on what I could get from Him, but actually what I could give to Him and thanking Him for what He had already given me, it set me free and opened my eyes to see how I can bless His heart through my worship.
Deuteronomy 10:8 (ESV) shows us, “At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord to stand before the Lord to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day.”
The truth is, worship and praise have always been designed for us to give more than we get. And yet, God loves to bless us! It’s a beautiful exchange, a giving of ourselves to Him and receiving what He has for us in return.
I love how King David exemplifies this in scripture…
You can pass through his open gates with the password of praise. Come right into his presence with thanksgiving. Come bring your thank offering to him and affectionately bless his beautiful name! Psalm 100:4, TPT
Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. Psalm 103:2, NLT
David blessed God in full view of the entire congregation: Blessed are you, God of Israel, our father from of old and forever. To you, O God, belong the greatness and the might, the glory, the victory, the majesty, the splendor… 1 Chronicles 29:10-11, MSG
When the Holy Spirit spoke to me that day about my heart’s posture and I repented, as Revelation 2:4 puts it, I went back to my “first love,” of trusting God, wanting Him and nothing else. It changed everything for me and, today, I want to encourage you to take some time to check the posture of your heart and encounter the loving-kindness of God as you surrender to Him.
May you bless His heart through your worship and your praise.
