Read John 14:1–4
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
At Home With Jesus
You’ve probably heard the phrase: “There’s no place like home.” We all want to be somewhere we can belong, somewhere that’s safe to chill out and just be ourselves.
Jesus talked about this need for a home when He was having His last meal with His friends. He told them about how He was going to die and come back to life. And He promised that although He would go away, He was going to prepare a place for them, and that He would come back and take them to be with Him there (John 14:2–3).
Jesus made this place for them—and us—possible when He died on the cross for everything we’ve ever done wrong. He told His followers that having gone through the trouble of creating this home, He would come back for them and not leave them alone. And while they were on earth, He also said, He would be with them always (Matthew 28:20).
Jesus’ words give us great comfort. We can trust that He not only prepares a home for us in heaven, but also makes His home within us right now (see John 14:23). No matter where we live on earth, we belong with Jesus. We can rest and be ourselves with Him; with Jesus, there’s no place like home. —ABP
With Jesus, we’re almost home.
Talk to God
Jesus, when I feel lonely or when I miss home, remind me that You are my home. Help me to share this sense of belonging with people I meet.
