30 Wisdom Sayings

DAY 26 OF 30

SAYING 26: EAT HONEY

Usually when we think about wisdom we consider it a pretty serious affair. We think of a wise person as someone who is somber and doesn’t know how to have fun. But here Solomon is instructing his son to ‘eat honey’ because it is ‘sweet to the taste.’ Being a wise person isn’t just about living a decent life but about living a full life, a life filled with joy and adventure.

Fun is part of wisdom. Having fun is a byproduct of living a full life. Now, this doesn’t mean that all fun is wise. There are essentially two types of fun: life-giving and life-draining. The type of fun Solomon is talking about is life-giving. Honey isn’t only sweet, it also produces antioxidants important for the body. While there is a type of fun that produces life, there is also a type of fun that, if we’re not careful, can actually steal life from us.
