Gifts and Callings
There is a difference between a gift and a dream. Our gifts are the tools that God has put within us to equip us for the calling He has for us. We may be aware of some of these callings, in the shape of dreams that we carry in our hearts. But there may be more to our calling and the dreams we carry, they may only be the ‘tip of the iceberg’. It is our responsibility to keep our gifts sharp and useable, like a warrior, ready for action when the time comes.
Matt 6:6 says “God sees what we do in the secret place”
I believe we should invest in our dreams while in the secret place, and it will bless God’s heart. Resting in Him and offering the gifts He has given us back to Him show us who we truly are, and it shows Him that we are living as were created to live, for an audience of One. If it is only for His eyes - then it’s worth it. When an audience of One is enough, we’re much more likely to be given a greater audience.
These are the investments we should be making into our dreams and callings - in the secret place. It is God who decides if and when we are ready for release into a more prominent outworking.
Think of the story of Joseph. He had dreams, he thought he knew enough of what they meant to share them with his brothers, but in reality, he didn’t understand the journey he would go through to see these dreams come to pass. He saw only a vague outline of the dream, he didn’t see the full picture in detail.
There is a difference between waiting for God’s timing to release you fully into your destiny, which your gifts are there to support, and letting your gifts get blunt because God hasn’t yet released you.
In Matt 25: 14-25, we read the parable of the talents. The men who were called ‘good and faithful servants’ were the ones who invested their talents and made a gain on behalf of their master. These workers were not instructed to invest their talents, they took the initiative and grew what they had been given. It was only the one who buried his talent and did nothing with it that met the master's disappointment.
Sometimes the gifts that God has put in us are there for nothing more than blessing His heart. And this is enough.
