Power Prayers For Our DaughtersIhe Atụ
Day 2 — Guarding Her Heart
Devotion
One of the scariest parts of raising children in today’s world is the plethora of ways technology opens the door for them to be exposed to so much when they are so young. You are probably like me, constantly researching and setting up filters and guards on the devices in your child’s life.
The thing is, we know that even as we work diligently to protect their eyes, the most important area to protect is their hearts.
Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life” (CSB, emphasis added). What we let into our hearts impacts every other aspect of our lives.
This is especially true for our daughters. Whether it’s choosing playmates at recess or roommates for college, our girls often move heart-first when it comes to relationships and countless other decisions in their lives.
We know how easily our feelings can deceive us and lead us astray. Our daughters will face those same struggles and temptations. One of the best ways we can intercede for them is to pray for them to be guided by the truth of God.
Prayer
Lord, we know our daughters will sometimes struggle to separate feelings from facts. We know this because we, too, have that same difficulty sometimes. We know how important it is to pray for them to lean into Your Word when their feelings about people, circumstances, and situations are confusing and complex.
We know the pure in heart are blessed because they truly see You (Matthew 5:8). May our daughters desire purity of heart in all ways as they seek Your face. May they keep their hearts focused on You, knowing You are near and faithful to them (Micah 7:7).
May our daughters delight themselves in You, knowing You have a good plan for their lives (Psalm 37:4). In an increasingly self-centered world, may our girls be quick to give You thanks, praising You with their whole hearts (Psalm 86:12).
And may we, as parents, be faithful to guide their hearts toward You. May we be examples of wholehearted devotion and gratitude. In Jesus’ name, amen.
