Getting to Know the Prophets

HARI KE 17 DARI 30

Jeremiah

Hebrews 1:1–2 says, “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” God used Jeremiah “long ago,” but he still speaks through Scripture and faithful messages of truth from obedient believers indwelt with the Holy Spirit. But, just as God's words were received with hostility in Jeremiah's days, we are increasingly witnessing the same.

We learn something about our sinful nature in the book of Jeremiah: We don’t like to be held to God’s standard or be subject to God’s wrath. And, at times, it may appear we can escape the rule of God. Keep in mind: Jeremiah prophesied decades before Jerusalem fell and Israel was exiled. But, the old saying "you can run, but you can't hide" might as well be a paraphrased prophecy because ultimately, Judah's attempts to shut the prophet's mouth, escape God's wrath, and remain autonomous failed. God’s words rang true then, and they will ring true again for us when Christ returns.

1. Is God calling you to believe a truth from His Word to which you have been resistant?

2. Do you struggle to take unpopular stands for your faith? Why?

Prayer:Lord, you never fail. Your Word stands. Forgive my unbelief.
